Old Powder Magazine (Vecchia Polveriera), Soleto
Old Powder Magazine adjacent to the Cava Lamia (now owned by Colacem) from which the Pietra di Soleto was extracted.
The private site, in the heart of the Salento olive grove in the municipality of Soleto (Lecce), was started in the 1930s and consisted of the caretaker’s house and other rooms including the powder magazine protected by a surrounding hill, still visible.
The structure is close to the “Laccu Feretru” (not far from the larger and more well-known “Laccu Capraru“, located on the border between Soleto and Sternatia, and from the Park of Santa Venerdìa or Santa Veneranda), which has recently been the subject of a redevelopment project including a tree-lined path.
